Thank you for joining us for Owning Up! We are all about supporting military spouse entrepreneurs.

Jun 2, 2022

Welcome back, listeners! It’s Season 4 of Owning Up!

First, we are grateful for YOU, our listeners, partners, and sponsors.

Now, let’s jump right in! This season, Moni wanted to bring on guests who are influencers in our community. They are dreamers, makers, doers, believers, bold and bravely creating the career of their dreams. This podcast is here to support military spouse business owners.

Moni talks with Karen Hetz, Chief Happiness Officer and founder of Kids’ Cake Boxes. She created Kids’ Cake Boxes during a time of need - the pandemic in 2020. During a virtual birthday party, her 6-year-old child asked her if they would also get cake. And that’s when the idea was born.

Karen designed personal size cake baking kits. The idea is that the host of the celebration can send a kit to each party member, and they can all enjoy their cakes together virtually. Although we don’t always have virtual parties now, Karen found a way to pivot with a brand overhaul and new marketing strategies.

It’s the perfect size cake to bake memories with your child. Kids’ Cake Boxes allow you quality time with your child in the heart of the home - the kitchen. The kitchen is where loving memories are made and enables you to embrace this quality screen-free time. You can bake memories that will last a lifetime.

Here are some other things you’ll hear in this episode:

  • You have moments in your journey where you can look back retrospectively. It’s essential to look at those and learn those important lessons. But keep moving forward.
  • The AMSE Cohort helped Karen on her business journey.
  • As a Registered Dietician, Karen loves being in the kitchen and working with food.
  • And she made sure to create gluten-free options as well as gluten options.
  • When vaccines started rolling out, she realized she had to pivot.
  • Kids’ Cake Boxes don’t just have to be during a pandemic because, as military families, we move a lot. So this provides a way to celebrate life moments together even when you can’t be together.
  • This is time together that you will be so glad you had. Meaningful conversations happen while coming together during these moments.
  • Allow yourself grace when it comes to pivoting and rebranding. Embrace the change and move forward.
