In this episode, Moni talks to Dr. Nikki Watkins the Clinic Director of the San Diego, California location for the Cohen Veteran’s Network. And she will also be the Clinic Director for another Cohen Clinic opening soon in Oceanside, California. The Cohen Veterans Network is mental health care and support for military, veterans, and military families. This includes spouses and children. The goal is to support the family and meet the need for the gap that wasn’t being met. 

Some other things you’ll hear in this episode: 

  • Offer case management services to assist when a spouse arrives at a duty station where a clinic is and doesn’t know where anything is or where to find assistance. 
  • There’s a need to support spouses who are entrepreneurs who are military spouses. Dr. Watkins is also an entrepreneur and comes from a place of understanding firsthand what it’s like and what it takes to run your own business. 
  • When stress is getting to you, try journaling just to get your stresses out. Don’t worry about being perfect with it, just write how you’re feeling. 
  • Selfcare is important. If you don’t know-how, reach out to the Cohen Veterans Network for support and help. 
  • It’s okay to admit you need help and seek help. That’s what will help change the narrative of your story. 
  • There are 19 clinics across the country, with a goal to open 25 total. But, they also have telehealth - virtual sessions available, too.
